Local stars blew the Aldershot Town Football in the Community coaches away with ‘tricks and treats’ during the Autumn half-term Football course at Oakley Park, Fleet.
Guided by UEFA qualified coaches, children as young as 5 years old set out to emulate their idols with the Messi, Aubameyang, Mata, Stones and Ronaldo challenges aimed at enhancing passing, ball manipulation, defending, speed, finishing and much more.
The older participants also experimented with role of ‘coach’ as they were allowed time to offer advice and assistance to the younger age group during an afternoon session. As well as crafting better players, it is the Trust’s wish to shape individuals that can take responsibility and help those around them in a wider sense – something the assisted coaching sessions allowed our older attendees to experience.
As with every course the week culminated in a tournament, this time with a World Cup theme. Spain, England, Brazil and Uruguay all battled it out whilst showcasing their development and it was Team Brazil that took their tally of 5 World Cup titles to 6 in typical flamboyant fashion with goals a plenty.
Perhaps the highlight of the week was served at the presentation ceremony when the ‘Player of the week’ was announced. Daniel, the youngest in attendance, was awarded with his first ever trophy after displaying a fantastic attitude, determination and talent that enthused all in attendance. The Trust is sure it will be the ‘first of many’.
It’s back to school now for the children but the scheme looks forward to seeing you all soon at the Monday night Peter Driver sessions, Advanced Centres and curriculum sessions.
The Trust is also busy readying itself for the first ever Red, White and Blue Day schools tournament on 11th December. Want to get involved? Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01252 546936 to find out how you can take part.
